How it is computed

  1. 1Cumulative inflationAnnual rates are multiplied, not added: price growth from year A to year B is the product of (1 + inflation) for every year after A, minus one. Adding understates it, because it ignores the compounding of prices.
  2. 2CPI or HICPPolish contracts and indexation use CPI from Statistics Poland announcements. For EU comparisons I use Eurostat’s HICP, which applies the same method in every country; that is why Polish HICP differs slightly from CPI (different basket weights).
  3. 3ForecastYears 2026 and 2027 are marked P: they are the central path of the latest NBP projection (CPI) and the European Commission forecast (HICP). Any result that uses a forecast is labelled as an estimate.

Frequently asked questions

What was inflation in Poland in recent years?

According to Statistics Poland, average annual CPI inflation was 14.4 % in 2022, 11.4 % in 2023, 3.6 % in 2024 and 3.6 % in 2025. The full table since 2015 is above, with the NBP forecast for 2026 and 2027.

How do I calculate inflation over several years?

Multiply the rates: (1 + year-1 inflation) × (1 + year-2 inflation) × … and subtract 1. For example, 2022 and 2023 together are 1.144 × 1.114 − 1 = 27.4 %, not 25.8 %. The calculator on this page does it for any period.

By how much should I index rent or a contract price?

Usually by the average annual CPI from the Statistics Poland announcement for the previous year. If indexation was skipped for several years, multiply the rates. Enter the amount and years in the calculator above, but check which index the contract names: annual average, December-on-December or another.

Where does the 2026–2027 forecast come from?

From the latest NBP projection (central CPI path) and the European Commission forecast for HICP. I update them after each round: the NBP publishes in March, July and November, the Commission in spring and autumn. The source date is shown under the chart.
